What this result means
AI contribution profit answers a narrower question than accounting profit: after refunds, payment processing, and model usage, how much product revenue remains? It deliberately excludes payroll, hosting, taxes, support, and other operating costs so the formula stays transparent.
Calculation method
Net revenue = gross revenue − refunds − payment processor fees. Contribution = net revenue − AI cost. Contribution margin = contribution ÷ net revenue × 100.
Worked example · synthetic
In one currency and reporting period: revenue 100 − refunds 5 − fees 3 = net revenue 92. Subtract AI cost 12 to get contribution 80, or 86.96% of net revenue. The currency selector only formats amounts; it never converts them.
This calculator has no model-price catalog: you supply actual AI cost. It is not net profit because unentered hosting, payroll, taxes and other expenses are excluded. If net revenue is zero or negative, the percentage is unavailable rather than divided by zero. Negative contribution remains negative. Missing costs are unknown, not zero.
