Hi, I’m Fran, and welcome to Grow or Die!

My message is this: Do not suffer. Seek help. In whatever area of your life you are experiencing a breakdown, there is help out there. Whatever you do, don’t stay static. It’s not natural. Life is always moving forward, we are always “becoming”. Where you are now is not where you’ll always be. Technology and the internet can now give you all the information and knowledge you need to make positive changes in your life -whether it’s your relationship, career, mental health, family, spirituality, community or other, just know…you are not alone.

I started the Grow or Die blog in 2018 as a place to share my own personal journey towards excellence, health, happiness, abundance, and career satisfaction. It’s a place for sharing ideas, inspiration, education, products with purpose, tools, mentoring and support for those who are looking to redesign their career, identity and ultimately, their life.

My journey into self-development started in 2013 at a when I hit a low point in my life and career.

I closed the digital agency I had been running for four years and went back to full-time employment. I split up from my girlfriend. I had put on a lot of weight and was feeling lethargic, depressed and lost. I had no idea what to do with my career. I kept on seeking the elusive “happiness” externally – in jobs, people, countries, alcohol, and food. Everywhere but inside myself.

Many people throughout the years had recommended I try meditation, but honestly, at that time in my life, that spiritual mediation stuff ” seemed like “hocus pocus” to me. But when I felt I had hit rock bottom, there was nowhere else to go. In my mind, I had tried everything. Then it dawned on me – “The definition of madness is when you do the same thing over again and expect a different result.” I had to try something new.

So one fine beautiful Sunday morning in New York City, I went to the realization (with a little help from the Kadampa Buddhist Temple) that the “fix” I was looking for was all in my head. More specifically, I started to awaken to the concept that the pursuit of happiness is internal, not external. To change the outside, you need to change the inside.

Fast forward five years I am happier, fitter, healthier, more satisfied than I’ve ever been. But maintaining it isn’t easy. I have to practice every day. It’ everything I do from the time I wake up, my daily routine, health and fitness routine, the strategic knowledge I learn, the investments of time, money, effort into becoming more competitive, strategic, strong, and spiritual. My path is an always evolving and never-ending path to growth.

I created Grow or Die to bring like-minded professionals together, so we can learn, share, transact, build and thrive in this new technology-driven marketplace.

Because there’s not just one thing you do; no “magic” pill that will make you the person you want to be. It’s hard work. There’s a lot of trial and error, falling off the wagon (but getting back on), patience (it takes time!), money (you have to educate yourself), an investment of energy and spirit.

Along the way, I’ve been helped by Tony Robbins, (UPW London 2018), Eckhart Tolle (Norway retreat 2015), read (and re-read) a myriad of self-help books, invested in sales training, networking coaching, negotiation skills, and even NLP. I am now an internationally certified personal trainer (YMCAfit).

We have no choice but to move forward. From business, relationships, membership in a community, spirituality, and career – hopefully, my experiences will help you thrive in what is the most rapidly changing world we’ve ever experienced.

What that means, is that since the 1980s, the world has been moving towards utilizing multi-purpose computers as opposed to single-person machines. How we survive and thrive in our careers is changing (and has hit some industries really hard). We need to shift our mindset from “doing” to “thinking”.

Unfortunately, society, our parents, traditional education and cultural conditioning is are not preparing us for the dramatic shift. The TV and the media teach us that if we work “hard”, stay positive, and update our skills we will have a long, fruitful career. Yeah right!

As we grow into our 30s and 40s we find that the career landscape gets more and more difficult to navigate. We see a few people around us getting promotions, building businesses and exploiting opportunities, but many of us don’t understand why. Surely they don’t work harder? They’re not smarter, are they?

This blog was designed to acknowledge this dramatic change and let our audience know that you’re alone. Not only are you not alone, but you can learn, shift, develop, thrive and grow.  I call it “Grow or Die”. Some say that sounds harsh, but I say it sounds REAL. We are constantly growing – like all life on earth. And if we stop feeding our mind, body, and soul, we’ll eventually wither up and die like a plant without water.

But gaining that competitive edge in your later carer is not just about the work right? What about mind, body, spirit? To grow into your best self you need to develop a holistic approach to life. You need your body to work. You need your mind to think. You need your spirituality to achieve happiness (money surely is great, but does it really make you happy?), so we’re going to cover these categories too.

I welcome you to our global network, Global DIe. I hope you find the resources here useful, inspiring and educational
